Fanculo 2020, various artists (Mistletunes, 2020)

Fanculo2020.jpgI posted this picture on my Facebook feed the other day and it struck me as a perfect cover for a 2020 New Year's mix disc, so I rushed to throw something short and tuneful together. Enjoy.

"Auld Lang Syne," Reel Big Fish -- Well, we had to hear this song in the context of this playlist, so let's go all uptempo ska on it.

"And a Happy New Year," Mikey Wax -- Something a little poppier from a previous Mistletunes holiday mix.

"Maybe Next Year," Jenny Owen Youngs -- It's downtempo, warm and optimistic, so here it is.

"Same Old Lang Syne," Dan Fogelberg -- This is a classic rock-era holiday favorite, especially among those who love 70s singer-songwriters.

"New Year's Eve," Brian Cullman -- "Hey, it's a new year, what have you got to lose?" has been a pretty potent pickup line over history; here's its theme song.

"New Years Blues," G. Love -- The old year already provided us with plenty of blues, and they'll hang over into the new one, so enjoy this.

"Champagne (I'm Ready)," Lisa Loeb -- This is a personal favorite new year's anthem of mine, and it was on a previous holiday mix.

"Look Outside (A New Year's Coming)," The Go! Team -- From 2020's Mistletunes Christmas disc; if it was good enough for that mix, it's good enough for this one.

"Have a Happy New Year," Johnny Pierre -- A new tune I just encountered while compiling this playlist, a happy rootsy shuffle.

"What Are You Doing New Year's Eve," The Head and the Heart -- A classic tune rendered by this popular alt-pop-folk combo.

"The New Year," Jimmy Jules -- Had to get a little funk into the playlist, so here it is.

"Auld Lang Syne," Grant-Lee Phillips -- An encore of the classic favorite, here rendered with historically correct lyrics.
